Roger Capron was born in Vincennes the September 4th, 1922 and died on 8th November 2006.
First interested in drawing, Roger Capron is a graduate of the "École des Arts Appliqués" in Dupetit-Thouars street in Paris from 1938 to 1943 before teaching drawing there since 1945.
The discovery of ceramics led him to change media on 6 February 1946, he moved to Vallauris, where he created a ceramic workshop, Callis. In doing so, he joined with Robert Picault then Jean Derval in 1948, contributing to the revival of ceramics in Vallauris.
In 1952, Capron bought a disused pottery of Vallauris and it carries with seven workers of articles for the gift shops as well as decorative panels.
Gold medal at the X Triennale of Milan in 1954,
Silver Medal at the International Exhibition in Cannes in 1955,
Gold medal in Brussels in 19591.
He met in 1950 in Vallauris, Pablo Picasso.
Since 1962 he begans a collaboration between Capron and Jean-Michel Carré.
He is interested in new material, the great fire stoneware; 1968 sees a new collaboration between Capron and Derval.
Capron received in 1970 the international grand prize of ceramics.
In 1980, his factory employs 120 people. But following the economic crisis, Roger Capron must in 1982 to file for bankruptcy: it is forced to sell the models, patents, manufacturing processes and its name (which is her trademark). His company was bought by the company Ets Carre Paris5. It continues some of its products until now.
This workshop will close in 1991.
But Roger Capron continues to work in his studio in Vallauris.
