Ludwig Mies van der Rohe is a German architect. Inspired by avant-garde architectural movements of the early twentieth century such as Expressionism, Constructivism or De Stijl, his major constructions made Mies van der Rohe a leading player in the modern movement. This model was designed by Mies van Der Rohe for the German pavilion at the Barcelona International Exhibition in 1929. Modern in appearance, this armchair nevertheless takes its form from the Roman folding curule chair.
