Manus is internationally recognized for her powerful geometric, abstract sculptures. Learning to weld as a student at the Art Institute of Boston, Manus began to exclusively work with metals in the 1970s, favoring the permanence and monumentality of the material. Architecture, as well as Minimalism and Constructivism, has served as a constant inspiration for her work because of its ability to transform one’s physical experience of space. In this fashion, Manus seeks to alter the viewer’s experience, considering the relationship of positive and negative space and the way light and shadow interacts with these spaces.
